Key Updates on Federal Reserve Meeting

The Federal Open Market Committee is expected to announce a quarter-point interest rate hike today at 2 p.m. ET, raising the target range to 3.75% to 4%. This would mark the first increase since July 2023, following six reductions totaling 1.75 percentage points. Futures indicate over 90% odds of this rate hike.

Additionally, the Fed’s updated dot plot will include forecast projections up to 2029 for the first time. Market analysts, including Morgan Stanley, have shifted their predictions, now forecasting two rate hikes this year, with another anticipated in December.

Market reactions include a rise in the Nasdaq Composite by 0.7% and the S&P 500 by 0.3%, while the Dow Jones remained largely unchanged, influenced by declines in key stocks like IBM and American Express.
