**Lean Hog Market Update**
Lean hog futures decreased by 67 cents to $1.37 at midday. The USDA reported the national base hog price at $93.43 on Thursday morning, an increase of 56 cents from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index rose by 12 cents to $91.31 as of April 28.
USDA’s export sales data indicated pork sales for 2026 reached 46,288 metric tons (MT) for the week ending April 23, marking a four-week high. However, shipments fell to 35,029 MT, a calendar year low. The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was reported at $96.81 per cwt, down 38 cents. Federally inspected slaughter for the week stood at 1.461 million head, down 15,000 from the prior week but 8,532 above the same week last year.
