Market Update: Hogs Maintain Stability at Noon

Lean hog futures are experiencing stability to a decline of 15 cents in front months as of Wednesday. The USDA’s national base hog price remains unreported, while the CME Lean Hog Index rose by 27 cents on January 19, reaching $82.03.

The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value increased by 94 cents to $94.41 per cwt, despite lower values reported for the butt, picnic, and ham primals. Federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 492,000 head for Tuesday, bringing the weekly total to 914,000—72,000 head lower than last week, but 13,430 head higher than the same week last year.

As of February 26, February hogs are priced at $87.700, April hogs at $95.175, and May hogs at $98.900, reflecting small declines.
