Meta Enhances AI Chatbot with Real-Time News Access

Meta Platforms’ (META) AI chatbot has received a significant update through a partnership with Reuters (TRI). This collaboration, reported by Axios, allows users to access real-time news updates and ask questions about current events across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The deal is part of a broader trend where major tech companies are establishing news partnerships to enhance their AI technologies.

While the financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed, Reuters confirmed the licensing of its content to Meta under a confidential, multi-year contract. This marks the first news content deal for Meta in several years, occurring as the company has been reducing its news operations amid criticism from publishers and regulators regarding misinformation and revenue-sharing conflicts.

Furthermore, this agreement enables the integration of Reuters content into Meta’s AI model, supporting the training and response capabilities of the chatbot. This initiative builds upon an existing fact-checking partnership spanning back to 2020.

Ongoing Developments in Meta AI

Recently, Meta has implemented various enhancements to its AI models. Earlier this month, the company introduced a tool designed to verify the accuracy of other AI outputs, a significant advancement toward creating fully autonomous AI applications. Additionally, Meta has rolled out AI tools that help advertisers generate videos on its platforms. Such enhancements appear to have positively influenced the stock market, reflected by a 22% rise in META shares over the past three months.
