AI Revenue Transparency Among Major Tech Companies
According to recent analyses, Microsoft and Amazon are the only major tech companies clearly disclosing their AI revenues. Microsoft has a commercial backlog of $678 billion, demonstrating an 84% year-over-year growth, while Amazon’s custom-chip business surpassed a $25 billion annual run rate with triple-digit growth. Both companies have established multiyear contracts with firms like OpenAI and Anthropic.
In contrast, Alphabet, while showing a firm cloud backlog of $514 billion and an 82% revenue growth, does not separately report AI revenues, as they are integrated into broader service offerings. Meta Platforms is noted for having measurable AI impact—reporting an 8.3% increase in ad clicks due to AI—but lacks a distinct revenue line for it. Oracle leads in backlog figures with $638 billion but heavily relies on OpenAI for this revenue stream, raising questions about dependence on a single customer.
The analysis highlights a growing divide in how key players report AI revenues, emphasizing the importance of transparency in verifying the effectiveness of AI investments.
