A Generous Offer from Meta
Meta Platforms has taken steps to meet the demands of European privacy regulators by proposing a significant reduction in the monthly subscription fees for Facebook and Instagram in Europe. News reports suggest that the tech giant intends to slash the current subscription fee from 9.99 euros to 5.99 euros for its ad-free subscription service, which was launched in Europe in November.
Legal Counsel Tim Lamb’s Explanation
During a recent European Commission hearing, Meta’s lawyer, Tim Lamb, disclosed the company’s intention to expedite the adjustment process. Lamb emphasized the necessity of establishing a stable environment and announced the company’s offer to lower the monthly fee to 5.99 euros for a single account and 4 euros for each additional account. This move comes as Meta seeks to comply with the Digital Markets Act, which restricts its ability to personalize ads for users without their explicit consent.
