Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) has unveiled four custom artificial intelligence (AI) chips as part of its collaboration with Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO), confirming their ongoing partnership. This announcement coincided with Broadcom CEO Hock Tan’s recent earnings call in Q1 2026, where he stated, “Meta’s custom accelerator MTIA roadmap is alive and well. We’re shipping now,” highlighting the importance of the Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) series for both companies.
Meta aims to leverage these chips for its ranking and recommendation models, which cater to its 3.5 billion users, representing over 40% of the world’s population. However, it did not announce a new GenAI training chip, potentially delaying the Olympus project, as Meta’s CFO Susan Li expressed hope for future developments in custom silicon for AI training. Despite this, the expansion into GenAI inference is expected to contribute positively to Broadcom, especially as McKinsey predicts a 35% compound annual growth rate for AI inference over the next five years.
