Microsoft’s Quantum Computing Advancements
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) introduced a new Level 2 quantum computer developed in partnership with Atom Computing, marking a significant milestone in its cloud strategy. CEO Satya Nadella stated that quantum will be “the next big accelerator in the cloud” during the earnings call for its fiscal fourth quarter 2025, which ended on June 30, 2025. The company’s overall revenue rose 18% to $76.4 billion, with Azure, its cloud infrastructure unit, experiencing a 39% growth.
Microsoft’s quantum computing efforts are centered on developing its Majorana 1 quantum chip, which employs a new Topological Core architecture and is expected to handle data bandwidths exceeding 10-100 terabits per second. In July, Microsoft secured an 80 million euro investment from the QuNorth initiative to advance its Level 2 quantum computer project. Azure Quantum is also being utilized by several other quantum computing firms, potentially benefiting the whole sector.
