**Lean Hog Futures Update – April 26, 2023**
Lean hog futures are trading within 40 cents of unchanged as of midday April 26, 2023. The USDA reported the national base hog price at $91.84, while the CME Lean Hog Index rose by 25 cents to $89.69. The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value decreased by 91 cents to $97.59 per cwt, with notable declines in ham, butt, and belly primals.
On April 24, the federally inspected hog slaughter was reported at 482,000 head, which is 5,000 head higher than the previous week but 1,434 head lower compared to the same week last year. April 26 Lean Hogs closed at $95.675, up $0.100, while May and June contracts closed at $99.700 and $109.400, down $0.325 and $0.075 respectively.
