Lean hog futures exhibited mixed trading on Friday, with contracts ranging from 42 cents higher to 30 cents lower in nearby months. The USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $85.41, an increase of 67 cents from Thursday evening. The CME Lean Hog Index decreased by 33 cents to $91.83 on October 29.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value rose by $2.58 to $102.86 per cwt. Among the primals, loin, butt, and picnic cuts saw increases of $6.24, $8.40, and $5.63, respectively, while rib, ham, and belly reported lower values. Estimated hog slaughter for Thursday was 483,000 head, totaling 1.947 million head for the week, down 1,000 from the prior week and 4,939 below the same week last year.
