Energy Sector Leads Markets in Afternoon Trading on Wednesday
In afternoon trading on Wednesday, Energy stocks led the markets, rising by 0.9%. Within this sector, APA Corp (Symbol: APA) and Diamondback Energy, Inc. (Symbol: FANG) emerged as notable performers, posting gains of 3.4% and 2.6%, respectively. The Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLE), which tracks energy stocks, also increased by 0.9% today. However, it has seen a 6.01% decline year-to-date. APA Corp has experienced a significant drop, down 32.22% year-to-date, while Diamondback Energy, Inc. is down 19.79% for the same period. Together, APA and FANG represent approximately 2.3% of XLE’s underlying holdings.
The Utilities sector followed as the second best performer, with a minor decline of just 0.5%. Eversource Energy has performed well, up 3.42% year-to-date, while Duke Energy Corp shows an even stronger performance up 13.26% year-to-date. Combined, ES and DUK contribute around 9.7% to XLU’s underlying holdings.
