On Wednesday afternoon, the Materials sector was the top performer, down just 0.1%. Albemarle Corp. (ALB) gained 7.8%, while Nucor Corp. (NUE) rose 1.4%. The Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLB) decreased by 0.4% on the day but is up 4.07% year-to-date. Notably, Albemarle Corp. is down 30.24% year-to-date, and Nucor Corp. is down 11.40%, with both companies making up approximately 5.0% of XLB’s holdings.
The Services sector followed closely, declining 0.3%. Amazon.com Inc (AMZN) increased by 4.4%, and Carnival Corp (CCL) rose 3.6%. The iShares U.S. Consumer Services ETF (IYC) is up 0.8% for the day and 7.96% year-to-date, while Amazon is up 28.06% year-to-date, and Carnival is down 0.38%. Together, AMZN and CCL represent about 15.5% of IYC’s underlying holdings.
