As of midday Wednesday, the Utilities sector is underperforming, down 0.2%, with Constellation Energy Corp (CEG) and Vistra Corp (VST) losing 3.6% and 2.6%, respectively. The Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLU) is down 0.4% on the day but up 14.96% year-to-date, while CEG and VST are up 46.25% and 48.41% year-to-date, making them approximately 13.5% of XLU’s holdings.
The Energy sector is also lagging, showing minimal gains. Trane Technologies plc (TT) and Targa Resources Corp (TRGP) are down 1.8% and 1.6%, respectively. The Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) is up 0.2% on Wednesday and 0.68% year-to-date, with TT up 17.20% year-to-date and TRGP down 5.84%, constituting 2.7% of XLE’s holdings.
Overall, seven sectors are up, while Utilities and Energy are the laggards in the market, reflecting a mixed performance across the S&P 500.
