UK-based deep-tech company DEScycle has partnered with Mitsubishi Corporation to explore business opportunities for recovering and processing metals from electronic waste in the Japanese market. This collaboration comes as demand for critical minerals increases, necessitating efficient metals recovery methods.

Using DEScycle’s proprietary ionometallurgy platform, which utilizes deep eutectic solvent chemistry, the partnership aims to establish a capital-light metals recovery infrastructure with lower energy consumption and environmental impacts compared to conventional smelting methods. DEScycle is currently constructing a demonstration plant in the UK, funded by Mitsubishi, to facilitate future deployments.

Mitsubishi will leverage its global trading platform and customer relationships to promote the marketing of critical and precious metals recovered through DEScycle’s technology, while also exploring further business expansion opportunities. This collaboration not only focuses on Japan but also aims to extend operations to the US and Europe, enhancing the circular economy.
