October Nymex natural gas futures closed at $2.893 per million British thermal units on Wednesday, down $0.028 (-0.96%). This decline followed a brief rise earlier in the day, which was fueled by expectations for above-average temperatures across the U.S. expected to increase natural gas demand for electricity. Meanwhile, the Commodity Weather Group indicated that warm temperatures are projected across the South and Southeast through September 25.
Key data shows that U.S. dry gas production stands at 112.3 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/day), an increase of 4.0% year-on-year, while demand reached 76.3 bcf/day, a 2.4% increase year-on-year. The EIA forecasts a rise in storage levels to 3,985 bcf by the end of October, which would represent the highest level in a decade, 5% above the five-year average. This information comes amidst fluctuating European natural gas prices, driven by supply disruptions from the Middle East and anticipated warmer weather patterns impacting future heating demand.
