Air Canada’s Essential Holiday Travel Tips for a Stress-Free Journey

As the holiday season approaches, Air Canada is preparing to assist over 2.2 million travelers. The peak travel period runs from mid-December to January 6, 2025, with December 19 to 23 predicted to be particularly busy.

MONTREAL, Dec. 17, 2024 /CNW/ – Air Canada has released top travel tips to help customers navigate busy holiday travel days. With operations of up to 1,000 flights daily, Air Canada is well-equipped for this rush. “Our team is fully prepared with staffing, equipment, and contingency plans,” stated Kevin O’Connor, Senior Vice President of Global Airports and Operations Control.

Your Guide to Smooth Holiday Travels

To enhance your travel experience, Air Canada recommends the following six tips:

1. Download the Air Canada mobile app for convenience.

  • Check-in and obtain digital boarding passes easily.
  • Receive automatic updates related to your boarding pass.
  • Track flight times, gate changes, and access walking directions to departure gates across major airports.
  • In Canada, the US, and select international locations, the app allows tracking of checked baggage.

2. Check-in 24 hours before your flight.

  • Make sure your contact information is current so you can receive timely updates.
  • Be aware of your baggage cutoff times.
  • Consult your digital boarding pass for important information about arrival times and gate changes.
  • In the case of flight changes, the app will notify you of new times and rebooking information.

3. Ensure you have the necessary travel documents.

  • Your ID must match the name on your ticket.
  • A valid government-issued ID is necessary to board all flights.
  • Check for any additional entry requirements, such as visas for your destination.
  • Look into expedited security services offered at many airports.

4. Pack wisely to adhere to baggage limits.

Many travelers overpack, leading to stress and complications. Consider these packing tips:

  • Know and respect the baggage limits for carry-on and checked items.
  • Label your bags with your contact details internally and externally.
  • Keep valuables, medications, and important items in your carry-on.
  • Check regulations about liquids and other items for security screening.

5. Arrive at the airport on time.

To help facilitate a smooth airport experience, the Air Canada app suggests arrival times and provides guidance on terminal navigation. Follow these steps:

  • Step 1 – Use a self-serve kiosk to print your boarding pass.
  • Additional steps detail navigating security processes and boarding.

By following these tips, travelers can enjoy a more relaxed and organized holiday season. Air Canada remains committed to customer safety and satisfaction as it prepares for one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Air Canada Enhances Traveler Experience with Innovative Baggage Tracking Feature

New Sharing Tool Improves Baggage Location Updates

Air Canada introduces a feature that allows customers to track their checked baggage using an AirTag or other Find My network accessory. This service helps expedite the reunification process in case of delayed bags.

  • Step 1 – Affix your tracking tag.
  • Step 2 – Check your bag at the drop-off station.
  • Step 3 – Proceed to security and enjoy some relaxation at the gate before boarding.

6. Travel with an AirTag or other Find My network accessory in your checked baggage

If customers find their bags delayed, the new Share Item Location feature allows them to securely share their bag’s location with Air Canada’s customer service. This feature aims to reunite customers with their baggage more efficiently:

  • Create a Share Item Location link through the Find My app on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and share it with Air Canada’s baggage team via their Delayed Baggage Claim website.
  • For privacy, location sharing automatically ends when the bag is returned to the customer. It can also be canceled at any time and expires after seven days.
  • Ensure your Apple device is running iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS 15.2 or later to utilize this feature.

Traveling Internationally?

Travelers should explore Air Canada’s Travel Ready Hub or refer to the Air Canada app for the most current government entry requirements. Customers must ensure they have the necessary travel documents, visas, health certificates, and meet all other eligibility criteria for their flights.
