**Netflix Receives $2.8 Billion Breakup Fee from Warner Bros. Discovery**
Netflix has officially secured a $2.8 billion breakup fee from Warner Bros. Discovery following the latter’s decision to pursue a merger proposal from Paramount Skydance deemed “superior.” Shortly thereafter, the streaming platform acquired InterPositive, an artificial intelligence filmmaking company founded by Ben Affleck in 2022. This acquisition aligns with Netflix’s ongoing strategy to enhance its production capabilities using advanced technology.
As part of the deal, Affleck will join Netflix as a senior adviser on technology, complementing a new multiyear first-look agreement for his production company, Artists Equity. InterPositive specializes in AI tools that assist filmmakers with technical aspects, such as correcting lighting errors and filling in missing shots, rather than creating content independently. This marks Netflix’s second acquisition in three months and reflects its interest in adapting to evolving industry dynamics amid ongoing discussions about AI in Hollywood.
