Niron Magnetics marked the groundbreaking of a new 190,000-square-foot permanent magnet manufacturing facility in Sartell, Minnesota, on September 26, 2025. The plant is set to produce 1,500 tons per year of rare-earth-free permanent magnets made from iron and nitrogen, aimed at various applications important to the U.S. economy, including automotive and consumer electronics.
The facility, located on the former site of the Verso Paper Mill, will be operational by early 2027 and is expected to create over 175 full-time jobs. This project comes in response to increasing demand for permanent magnets and the need for supply chain independence due to geopolitical tensions affecting rare earth materials.
