Nvidia’s Major Supply Commitment
Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) has announced a staggering $279 billion in supply commitments to bolster its data center business, which saw a 117% year-over-year growth during the second quarter of fiscal year 2027. This figure signifies a substantial increase from $119 billion just three months prior, primarily aimed at securing memory components necessary for upcoming GPU and CPU shipments.
The company reported revenue of $89 billion during the same period and is guiding for $108 billion in the next quarter. This commitment represents about three years of concentrated purchasing aimed at addressing the growing demand for high bandwidth memory (HBM), crucial for supporting advanced AI models and ensuring adequate supply as Nvidia scales its production of Blackwell systems and Vera central processing units.
Furthermore, Nvidia’s CFO, Colette Kress, indicated that the financial outlay would significantly affect gross margins, which are projected to lower from 75% to the low 70% range by the end of fiscal 2027. This shift underscores the impact of increasing memory costs on Nvidia’s profitability while solidifying their position as a key player in the AI infrastructure market.
