Tesla Starts Production of Optimus Robot in Fremont

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has commenced production of its Optimus robot at its Fremont facility in California. This marks a significant milestone for the company, which aims to derive 80% of its future value from the Optimus line. However, initial production is intended for internal use and iterative improvements rather than immediate commercial sales.

CEO Elon Musk emphasized the challenges of scaling production, stating it is the hardest manufacturing process Tesla has attempted to date. He indicated that the supply chain for building such robots is nascent, necessitating Tesla to establish one from scratch.

Tesla plans to use the Fremont production as a template for scaling at its Giga Texas factory in Austin, which will specialize in mass production of the Optimus robot. The total capital allocation for this project is part of an aggressive spending strategy exceeding $25 billion by 2026, with expectations of steady growth that Musk described as an “S-curve” ramp-up.
