Pembina Pipeline Corporation (PBA) is finalizing a deal to build a large AI data center for Meta Platforms (META) northeast of Edmonton, as reported by The Logic. This initiative contributes to Alberta’s goal of becoming a major data hub, leveraging the province’s natural gas supply to power the energy-intensive facility.

The Meta data center will be situated in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland, a region known for its robust industrial infrastructure and advanced carbon capture technologies, near Fort Saskatchewan. Pembina is collaborating with Calgary-based firms Kineticor and Beacon AI to provide scalable natural gas power optimized for AI demands, aiming for commercial operation of a new natural gas power station, the Greenlight Electricity Center, by 2029. The center will supply up to 1,800 megawatts of power.

This strategic partnership is expected to not only aid Meta in meeting the substantial energy requirements for its AI operations but also establish Alberta as a competitive player in the North American AI data center landscape.
