Coatue Management Adjusts AI Investments
Coatue Management, a hedge fund founded by Philippe Laffont, reduced its stake in Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) by 14%, selling 1.6 million shares during the third quarter. Conversely, the firm significantly increased its investment in Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) by 259%, acquiring 5.2 million shares. These adjustments reflect Coatue’s ongoing strategy to prioritize leading artificial intelligence stocks within its portfolio.
Nvidia, once valued at around $345 billion post-ChatGPT’s release in November 2022, has seen its market cap soar to approximately $4.3 trillion, making it the world’s most valuable company. Meanwhile, Alphabet has made substantial strides in AI, launching its own LLM, Gemini, and bolstering its cloud business, which now competes effectively with AWS and Microsoft Azure.
Coatue’s adjustments come as Alphabet’s stock valuation rises, positioning it attractively among megacap tech stocks, particularly with Laffont’s foresight amid the AI infrastructure boom. Notably, Warren Buffett has also taken a position in Alphabet, signaling confidence among prominent investors.
