Piper Sandler Sets $400 Price Target for Tesla Amid Q1 Earnings
Piper Sandler established a $400 price target for Tesla Inc. TSLA following the company’s Q1 earnings call on Tuesday.
Analyst Insights
On Wednesday, the investment bank reaffirmed the price target, with analyst Alex Potter maintaining an overweight rating on the stock in spite of Tesla’s disappointing quarterly results. He noted that the market reaction suggested a validation of their expectations.
Potter indicated, “In our preview last week, we predicted that (at best) Q1 would be a non-event. With the stock trading up slightly in the after-hours session, it appears our best-case scenario has materialized.”
Future Expectations
Piper Sandler also expressed that Tesla did not manage expectations sufficiently by announcing the upcoming launch of robotaxis and more affordable vehicle models. The firm anticipates “interesting catalysts” for investors as these developments unfold.
The outcome of Tesla’s product launches, particularly the robotaxi and budget-friendly models, will play a significant role in the company’s future performance. Piper Sandler stressed the reiteration of their $400 price target.
Market Sentiment
This optimistic view is not isolated; Wedbush Investment’s analyst Dan Ives has set a $350 price target for Tesla stock. Such optimism is fueled by Elon Musk‘s continued commitment to the electric vehicle manufacturer as he reduces involvement with his other ventures.
Additionally, Tesla plans to introduce an affordable vehicle model derived from its current lineup, which includes the Model S, Model Y, Model X, Model 3, and the Cybertruck.
Contrasting Opinions
Contrastingly, some analysts, such as Ross Gerber, are less enthusiastic about Tesla’s prospects. After the Q1 earnings call, Gerber described the quarter’s performance on social media as “the worst performance in Tesla’s history.”
