Pork Market Strengthens as Monday Trading Concludes

Lean hog futures showed minor changes on Monday, with prices up to 32 cents higher, while USDA reported the national base hog price at $92.62, a decrease of 68 cents from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index fell by 19 cents to $95.68.

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value decreased by $1.15 to $98.76, with the picnic primal being the only segment to gain value. Monday’s estimated federally inspected hog slaughter reached 484,000 heads, surpassing the previous week’s figure by 19,000 and increasing by 4,020 from the same week last year.

In the futures market, October 26 Hogs closed at $81.725, down $0.025; December 26 Hogs closed at $72.525, up $0.050; and February 27 Hogs remained steady at $75.775.
