Pork Prices Gain Ground by Afternoon

Lean hog futures are mixed, with June down 12 cents and other contracts up 60 cents to $1.25. The USDA reported a national average base hog price of $102.36 on Wednesday morning, while the CME Lean Hog Index rose by 44 cents to $96.34 as of June 2.

The USDA’s FOB plant pork cutout value was $106.64, increasing by 53 cents. Federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 482,000 head on Tuesday, bringing the weekly total to 945,000 head, a decrease of 12,699 head compared to the same week last year.
