Tesla’s Semi Gains Traction in Truck Market

Tesla’s Semi electric truck is showing promising results in its early operations, with logistics company ArcBest purchasing two units following a successful pilot program in 2025 that averaged 1.55 kWh per mile over nearly 4,500 miles. This performance exceeded Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s 2022 projections of 1.7 kWh per mile, as well as results from previous testing by companies like DHL and Saia.

As of April, Tesla has entered high-volume production, leading to increased orders, including a significant 370-truck order from WattEV worth about $100 million, and additional combined orders of 60 trucks from two port operators. The Tesla Semi boasts an 822 kWh battery with a range of approximately 500 miles, setting it apart from competitors like Freightliner and Volvo.

Despite initial skepticism, industry experts note that the Tesla Semi could become a key player in the Class 8 truck market, indicating a positive shift in the commercial trucking landscape. Continued testing and feedback suggest the Semi is outperforming traditional diesel trucks in areas such as operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
