Potential SpaceX-Tesla Merger Speculated

Speculation about a merger between SpaceX and Tesla is intensifying, with prediction markets indicating a 41% chance of an announcement by December 2023. This surge in sentiment follows an amendment in SpaceX’s S-1 filing that suggests the company may consider significant acquisitions.

As of June 3, Kalshi reports a 51% likelihood for the merger to occur before March 2027, with a 61% probability before May 2027. The renewed interest in a potential deal is attributed to both companies’ ambitions in artificial intelligence, combining Tesla’s terrestrial AI assets with SpaceX’s orbital capabilities.

The proposed merger could create a $3.3 trillion entity, aided by SpaceX’s anticipated $1.77 trillion IPO, allowing it to utilize highly-valued shares as currency in a merger with Tesla. However, significant regulatory scrutiny and shareholder approval will be required for any deal to materialize.
