The stock market is showing concerning signs despite record highs, particularly with the Nasdaq-100 hitting 55 all-time highs over the past 18 months while only 764 stocks across U.S. exchanges hit 52-week highs, a sharp decline from 1,581 a year prior. This discrepancy raises alarms reminiscent of the conditions preceding the dot-com bubble burst.

In the obesity-drug sector, Novo Nordisk A/S (NVO) faces challenges after its rival Eli Lilly & Co. (LLY) reported strong clinical results for its Zepbound treatment, boosting LLY’s stock by approximately 400% over the past five years, while NVO has seen a decline. Currently, Novo’s shares trade at about 14 times earnings compared to 34 times for Lilly, despite both companies generating similar sales in obesity and diabetes markets, indicating a significant valuation gap.

Additionally, Novo’s new oral GLP-1 treatment, Wegovy, has captured 76% of the U.S. oral obesity-drug market since its launch in January, indicating potential future growth. However, Novo faces risks, including competitive pressure from Lilly and regulatory uncertainties, making it crucial for investors to assess these dynamics moving forward.
