Intel Experiences Significant Stock Decline Amid Chip Industry Sell-Off

Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC) shares fell 5.6% as of 2:55 p.m. ET on Tuesday, amid a broader semiconductor market sell-off that has seen stocks drop over 20% from recent highs. Concerns about the return on extensive investments in AI infrastructure are causing unease among investors, compounded by an upcoming Federal Reserve decision that some speculate might result in a rate hike.

In addition to the financial uncertainties, a Chinese state-backed company has reportedly begun mass production of immersion DUV lithography tools, previously monopolized by ASML, raising further concerns among chipmakers like Intel. Chip stocks, including Nvidia, also took hits, with Nvidia losing nearly 5% and ceding its position as the world’s most valuable public company to Apple.
