On Thursday, May NY world sugar #11 (SBK26) closed down -0.29 points (-1.90%), while May London ICE white sugar #5 (SWK26) fell -6.40 points (-1.45%), marking a two-week low for sugar prices. This decline followed an announcement from India’s National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Ltd., reporting a 9% year-over-year increase in projected sugar production for the 2025-26 season, reaching 27.12 million metric tons (MMT).

Furthermore, Brazilian sugar production has also contributed to the bearish market, with Unica reporting a cumulative output increase of 0.7% year-over-year to 40.25 MMT as mills processed more cane. In addition, the U.S. Department of Agriculture anticipates global sugar production will rise by 4.6% year-over-year to a record 189.318 MMT for the 2025-26 season, compared to human sugar consumption, expected to reach 177.921 MMT, marking a 1.4% increase.
