Root, Inc. (ROOT) has extended its exclusive embedded insurance partnership with Carvana through at least August 2028. This agreement preserves Root’s access to Carvana’s large national used-car buyer base during vehicle purchases, offering a key opportunity for insurance sales at the point of sale.
In the second quarter of 2026, partnerships and independent agents accounted for about 51% of Root’s new business, a rise from 44% the previous year. While policies in force grew by 6.2% year-over-year to 483,921, Root anticipates these will remain relatively flat if competitive pressures persist.
Although the renewed partnership enhances distribution visibility for Root, the company’s premium growth remains contingent on Carvana’s vehicle retail volumes and customer attachment rates for insurance. The growing emphasis on diversified acquisition channels reflects Root’s response to intensified competition within the direct insurance market.
