Expanding the Collaborative Horizon

Glenn Heard, the mining executive at Barrick, heralded the ongoing cooperation with Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions as an instrumental source of value-adding technologies for Barrick’s global mining operations.

“This mutually beneficial cooperation will help ensure we continue our growth journeys in the areas of automation, digitalization and electrification in order to drive improvements across our sites,” asserted Heard.

The extended framework agreement encompasses Barrick’s rollout of Sandvik’s remote monitoring service (RMS) to its entire global underground fleet of more than 200 connected Sandvik trucks, loaders, and drills. RMS has garnered praise by reducing maintenance costs while elevating uptime across Barrick’s Sandvik fleet.

Furthermore, under the framework agreement, Sandvik and Barrick will jointly devise a long-term BEV strategy and outline BEV transition plans, in alignment with Barrick’s ambitions to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

“This extension of our agreement will strengthen Sandvik’s partnership with Barrick,” Hugo Hammar, global account manager at Sandvik, remarked while expressing eagerness to continue adding value to Barrick’s business through their collaboration.
