Sector Highlights for Friday: Energy and Healthcare Leaders

As of midday Friday, energy companies are leading market performance, with shares up 1.6%. Halliburton Company (HAL) gained 4.1%, while APA Corp (APA) rose 3.9%. The Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) is up 1.5% for the day and 3.42% year-to-date. Despite these gains, Halliburton is down 14.60% year-to-date, and APA is down 8.06%. Together, HAL and APA constitute about 2.0% of XLE’s holdings.

The healthcare sector is the second-best performer, with a slight loss of 0.3%. Notable stocks in this sector include Boston Scientific Corp. (BSX) up 1.6% and CVS Health Corporation (CVS) up 1.1%. The Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) is down 0.1% on the day and 0.27% year-to-date. Year-to-date, BSX has seen a rise of 12.16%, while CVS is up 52.37%, making them around 4.7% of XLV’s holdings.

Overall, only the energy sector is showing a gain, while eight other sectors, including healthcare, are down. Significant declines were noted across industries such as financials (-1.1%) and technology & communications (-1.0%).
