Many members of the U.S. Congress are millionaires, largely due to extensive trading activities rather than their $174,000 annual salary. For example, in 2025, Representative Ro Khanna (D-California) made 4,555 trades worth nearly $63 million, while Representative Michael T. McCaul (R-Texas) completed 1,057 trades totaling almost $62 million.
In the past 90 days, Congress members have heavily invested in stocks like Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX), which saw $163,500 in buys, and Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO), with trades amounting to $3,080,500. Notably, Rep. Khanna purchased between $100,001 and $250,000 in JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) shares, which have seen eight congressional trades resulting in $304,500 in inflows. In contrast to their performance, over 94% of actively managed funds have failed to beat the S&P 500 over two decades.
