A Stellar Career in Mining
Cochran steps into the role of the head of uranium division at Sibanye-Stillwater with an impressive track record in the mining industry. With over 30 years of experience under his belt, Cochran’s expertise spans across a wide range of commodities and leadership roles both nationally and globally, particularly in the uranium sector.
His journey in the uranium industry commenced back in 2006 when he became a part of Uranium One’s South Australian team. Notably, he played a pivotal role in shepherding the Honeymoon Mine through its environmental clearance process and overseeing the establishment of the Mitsui, Uranium One Australia JV. In a significant move in 2007, Cochran spearheaded Uranium One’s monumental C$3.8 billion acquisition of UrAsia Ltd, which remains the most substantial transaction in uranium history. His responsibilities included integrating and managing the Kazakh joint venture interests.
Cochran has also left his mark on other uranium companies, including stints at Namibian-focused uranium developer Deep Yellow Limited. Most recently, he served as the Managing Director and CEO of Aurora Energy Metals, a company with an advanced uranium project in the US. Prior to his role at Aurora, he held the position of CEO at Reward Minerals, a company engaged in the development of sulphate of potash.
