Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) work similarly to stocks, but investors trade “units” instead of “shares.” These units are exchangeable like stocks and can be created or destroyed based on investor demand. Each week, we monitor the changes in shares outstanding for ETFs, identifying those with significant inflows (indicating new units created) or outflows (indicating old units destroyed). The creation of new units requires purchasing the underlying assets of the ETF, while the destruction of units necessitates selling these assets, thus impacting the individual components held within the ETFs.
