Tesla to Provide Critical Data on Full-Self Driving Incidents to NHTSA
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is anticipated to deliver vital crash data concerning its full-self driving (FSD) technology to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) by March 9, 2026. This data is part of an ongoing NHTSA investigation into reported incidents involving Tesla’s robotaxi service, which has seen 14 reported incidents since launching in June 2025.
Currently, the NHTSA has identified only 58 incidents relevant to its investigation from over 8,300 records that Tesla needs to review. The robotaxi collision rate stands at approximately one per every 57,000 miles, significantly lower than the U.S. average driver collision rate of one every 660,000 miles. The data being submitted will likely cover the earlier versions of the FSD, which could reveal both improvements and ongoing challenges within the system.
