Snapchat’s Financial Challenges and User Decline

Snapchat (NYSE: SNAP) reported a net loss of $164 million in Q2, despite generating $1.6 billion in revenue, reflecting a negative profit margin of approximately 10%. The company projects adjusted EBITDA of $300 million to $350 million for Q3 and anticipates achieving positive net income by 2027.

While Snapchat boasts 971 million monthly active users (MAUs), its daily active users (DAUs) are decreasing in key markets: a 6% drop year-over-year in North America and a 2% decline in Europe. The U.S. alone accounted for 59% of Q2 revenue, but average revenue per user (ARPU) in non-U.S. regions is significantly lower at $1 compared to $10.26 in the U.S.

Despite a year-over-year revenue growth of 19% in Q2, the company is at risk of long-term stagnation as it faces challenges in user retention and engagement, particularly in its most lucrative markets.
