Market Update
On Tuesday at midday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 0.8%, building on Monday’s record setting, while the Nasdaq Composite declined by 0.4%. The S&P 500 dropped by 0.2%. Notably, SpaceX’s stock surged 9.9% after announcing a $60 billion acquisition of AI coding startup Anysphere.
Major contributors to the Dow’s gain included JPMorgan Chase, which rose by 3.2%, and Caterpillar, which climbed 2.5%, recovering from a previous sell-off. In contrast, semiconductor stocks, including Nvidia and Broadcom, weighed down the Nasdaq. Additionally, the United States Oil Fund fell by 6.1% as Brent crude oil prices dipped below $80, a two-day decline exceeding 10%.
Investors are anticipating the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting on Wednesday, where futures indicate a 98% probability that rates will remain unchanged. This, coupled with easing geopolitical tensions, appears to be influencing market sentiments.
