On Tuesday, March NY world sugar #11 (SBH26) closed higher at +0.03 (+0.20%), while March London ICE white sugar #5 (SWH26) rose by +2.50 (+0.59%). The gains followed a recovery from earlier losses attributed to a strengthening Brazilian real, which reached a one-month high against the dollar, thereby discouraging export sales from Brazil’s sugar producers.
Recent data indicates significant shifts in sugar production. The India Sugar Mill Association reported a 25% rise in Indian sugar production for the 2025-26 season, amounting to 11.90 million metric tons (MMT) compared to 9.54 MMT last year. The USDA projects global sugar production to increase by 4.6% year-on-year to a record 189.318 MMT in 2025-26, driven by rising outputs in Brazil, India, and Thailand. In contrast, the International Sugar Organization forecasted a surplus of 1.625 million MT for 2025-26 due to increased production across several countries.
