As of today, July NY world sugar #11 (SBN25) is down by 0.46 points (-2.78%), and August London ICE white sugar #5 (SWQ25) is down by 12.90 points (-2.69%). Sugar prices decline sharply due to expectations of improving global sugar supplies.

The USDA’s biannual report, released on May 22, projects a 4.7% year-over-year increase in global sugar production for 2025/26, reaching a record 189.318 million metric tons (MMT) with a surplus of 41.188 MMT. India’s sugar production is expected to rise by 19% to 35 MMT, while Brazil’s production is projected to hit 44.7 MMT, up 2.3%. Conversely, Brazil’s cumulative sugar output through May was down 11.6% year-over-year, attributed to adverse weather conditions.

The International Sugar Organization raised its global sugar deficit forecast for 2024/25 to a nine-year high of 5.47 MMT, while projected global sugar consumption for 2025/26 is set to increase by 1.4% to 177.921 MMT.
