Tesla has partnered with Matrix Renewables to develop a 1 GWh Megapack project in Eccles, Scotland, marking Matrix’s first standalone battery storage initiative in the UK. The project will consist of a 500 MW, two-hour battery energy storage system, contributing to the UK’s efforts to balance renewable energy sources as it aims for Net Zero by 2050.

Tesla’s energy storage deployments have surged at a compound annual growth rate of 180% over the last three years, with a 113% year-over-year increase in 2024 alone. The Energy Generation and Storage segment reported gross margins of 26% in 2024, making it the most profitable division for the company. CEO Elon Musk projects a further 50% growth in deployments for the upcoming year.

In comparison, Tesla’s electric vehicle sales are experiencing declining demand, highlighting the energy segment as a key growth area amidst increasing global interest in renewable energy solutions.
