BYD Overtakes Tesla in Global EV Sales
In 2025, BYD achieved global EV sales of 2.26 million units, marking a 28% increase year-over-year, while Tesla’s deliveries fell by 8% to 1.64 million. This shift highlights BYD’s rising prominence as it accelerates international expansion and innovation, revealing 11 new EV models and advanced battery technology during a March event in Shenzhen, China.
Conversely, Tesla is pivoting away from traditional automotive production, recently announcing the discontinuation of the Model S and X to refocus on AI and robotics. Despite accounting for 97% of Tesla’s sales, models 3 and Y face growing competition, raising concerns among investors about the company’s future in the EV market.
