Tesla Accelerates Production of Semi Truck
Tesla will significantly increase production of its electric Semi truck in the first half of 2026, aiming to manufacture between 5,000 and 15,000 units. This shift comes after delays since the truck’s initial unveiling in 2017. The Semi seeks to rival diesel trucks in terms of payload capacity and appears to have resolved previous weight issues by reducing its design weight and utilizing a federal exemption for electric vehicles.
While annual production capacity at Tesla’s Nevada factory is set at 50,000 trucks, capturing even a small share of the Class 8 truck market, which totaled 208,000 units in 2025, would mark a significant achievement. Investors are advised to keep expectations in check, as reaching annual sales of 10,000 units by the end of the decade would be considered a considerable win for the company.
