Tesla has launched its first batch of V4 Superchargers in China, the world’s largest EV market, featuring peak charge rates up to 325 kW, significantly higher than the 250 kW of the previous V3 chargers. Each V4 Supercharger enables compatible EVs to achieve 168-200 miles of range in just 15 minutes. Initial installations are located in Shanghai, Chongqing, Gansu, and Zhejiang provinces, with plans for expansion to Beijing and Guangdong.
Tesla’s Shanghai factory is now producing V4 chargers, with each station costing less than $40,000 to install. This rollout strengthens Tesla’s existing infrastructure of over 11,000 charging stalls in China and allows access to electric vehicles from other brands. In comparison, BYD has announced a goal of 15,000 “megawatt” chargers, while Li Auto operates 2,414 super-charging sites, aiming for over 4,000 by year-end 2025.
Globally, Tesla manages more than 70,000 Superchargers, making it the largest EV charging network. The company’s stock has seen a decline of about 21% year to date, reflecting increased competition in the EV market.
