According to reports from Reuters and Electrek, Toyota is gearing up to launch the electric version of its popular Hilux pickup truck imminently. Following the unveiling of a hydrogen fuel cell Hilux prototype last year, speculation has been rife about the potential release of an electric variant. The company revealed its first “electrified” version last December, showcasing the Hilux Revo BEV in Thailand in 2022.
During the Bangkok International Show, Toyota Thailand’s president, Noriaki Kamashita, confirmed the impending release of the electric Hilux by the end of 2025. This announcement closely follows Isuzu’s declaration to introduce its debut 100% electric pickup truck by the month’s end. Isuzu’s D-MAX BEV aims to directly challenge Ford Motor’s electric F-150, America’s best-selling pickup truck. Isuzu plans to manufacture its electric pickup in Thailand, with the D-MAX already enjoying a presence in over 100 countries worldwide. The D-MAX claimed the second-highest sales spot in Thailand in January, trailing Toyota’s Hilux.
Additionally, Toyota rebranded its battery subsidiary after acquiring Primearth EV Energy shares from Panasonic, renaming it Toyota Battery Company Ltd. This strategic name change reflects Toyota’s expanding focus on electric vehicles and sustainable energy solutions.
