After the anticipated release of the electric pickup by Tesla Inc TSLA at the end of 2023, the stage was set for a heated battle within the electric vehicle (EV) landscape. BYD Company Limited BYDDY, one of Tesla’s competitors, surged ahead in the final quarter, overtaking Tesla temporarily. However, Tesla regained its lead in the full-year sales, delivering 1.8 million units, meeting its yearly target. As 2024 began, a new challenger emerged in the electric pickup fray, posing a challenge to Rivian Automotive Inc RIVN and the veteran player, Ford Motor F. Ford Motor recently announced adjustments in the pricing of its 2024 F-150 Lightning models, marking a significant development in the ongoing electric pickup narrative. Furthermore, Worksport Ltd WKSP, known for its collaboration with Hyundai Motor Company HYMTF, is expanding its production capacity, indicating a heightened momentum in the electric pickup segment, particularly within the aftermarket arena. Interestingly, Hyundai, housing the Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands, concluded 2023 behind Tesla but ahead of Ford Motor and General Motors F in U.S. EV sales.

VinFast’s Entry into the Electric Pickup Arena

VinFast made a significant debut at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, unveiling its pioneering EV concept, the VF Wild. The Vietnamese startup also confirmed its intentions to expand operations beyond Vietnam, introducing its compact EV, the VF3, to international markets. While specific details regarding VinFast’s new electric pickup concept remain confidential, the dimensions are reminiscent of the groundbreaking R1T model by Rivian, signifying the onset of a fresh dynamic in the electric pickup realm.

Worksport’s Expansion and Production Endeavors

Worksport has disclosed plans for a second soft cover factory, indicating a strategic expansion alongside the upscaling of production at its cutting-edge hard folding facility in Buffalo, New York. The company is at the forefront of developing the SOLIS solar-powered tonneau cover and the COR portable system, poised to redefine the benchmarks in the automotive aftermarket domain by integrating environmental sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and practicality into the transportation landscape. This potent combination not only extends the mileage of EV pickups, addressing the prevalent range limitations, but also promises a sustainable future for transportation powered by renewable energy solutions. Moreover, the COR portable battery system is designed for autonomous utilization, amplifying its capacity to power remote locations.
