In July 2025, the U.S. Department of Defense became the largest shareholder with a 15% stake, investing $400 million. The DOD will purchase all magnets produced at MP Materials’ new 10X facility for a decade and has also provided a $150 million loan. The company has a magnet supply agreement with Apple and plans to commence magnet production by the end of 2025.
