Thursday Market Highlights: Industrial and Materials Sectors Take the Lead

On Thursday afternoon, the industrial sector is leading the market with a gain of 2.0%. Key contributors include RTX Corp (Symbol: RTX), which increased by 10.3%, and Southwest Airlines Co (Symbol: LUV), up by 6.8%. The Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLI) rose by 1.8% on the day and 10.71% year-to-date, with RTX and LUV comprising about 4.4% of XLI’s holdings. RTX has a year-to-date gain of 38.90%, while LUV is down 0.37% for the year.

The materials sector follows as the next best performer, rising by 1.9%. Masco Corp. (Symbol: MAS) gained 8.3%, and Mohawk Industries, Inc. (Symbol: MHK) increased by 6.5%. The Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLB) is up 1.0% today and 6.73% year-to-date. MAS is up 15.04% year-to-date, and MHK has increased by 30.92% over the same period.

In total, seven sectors are up during Thursday’s trading, while two are down. Notably, the energy and financial sectors are also performing positively, with gains of 1.3% and 1.2%, respectively.
