Thursday Market Underperformers: Energy, Technology, and Communications Sectors

On Thursday afternoon, energy stocks are the weakest sector, down 1.3%, led by ONEOK Inc (OKE) and EQT Corp (EQT) with losses of 2.4% and 2.3%, respectively. The Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) is down 1.2% for the day but up 8.96% year-to-date. Notably, ONEOK is down 0.49% year-to-date, while EQT is up 12.42%. Together, OKE and EQT represent approximately 6.2% of XLE’s holdings.

In the Technology & Communications sector, which is down 0.9%, Palo Alto Networks (PANW) and Super Micro Computer (SMCI) show losses of 5.0% and 4.9%, respectively. The Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) is down 0.9% on the day and 8.89% year-to-date. PANW is down 3.41% over the year, while SMCI is up 15.55%, accounting for about 1.6% of XLK’s underlying holdings.
